Latest Updates from Our Project:

Chinese Tariffs and the Trade War
almost 5 years ago – Tue, May 14, 2019 at 11:06:20 PM

Good morning, everyone.

I wanted to release a quick update regarding the US/China trade war.  As a preface, LP does not take a position in political discourse, regardless of what our personal positions may be.

China and the US have had a bit of a altercation in their trade deals, and it has managed to finally affect our products (our dice are made in China).  As such, there will be a 25% tariff added to our dice production costs for any of the sets coming to the US.

Here's the important bit: THIS WILL NOT AFFECT OUR CUSTOMERS.

To give you a bit of a peak-behind-the-curtain, dice are a fairly high profit-margin product, on a per-set basis.  A little bit of acrylic and a dash of ink are not all that expensive, but there is a fair amount of initial investment in terms of artistry for the design and set-up fees (MOQs, molds, etc.).  We at LP firmly believe that our customers' happiness comes first, so losing some of that profit margin so that our customers have a good experience is a sacrifice we're more than willing to make.

While we will evaluate any future projects in light of the new costs when they arise, rest assured that the price we have asked for this campaign will not change, and this campaign will not crash due to the hike.

If you have any questions, please feel free to message me.

With much love,

Stanford

BackerKit is Live ... and I'm terrible at this!
almost 5 years ago – Thu, May 09, 2019 at 01:46:43 AM

Good evening, everyone!

First of all:

The BackerKit survey is LIVE.

If you have not received an email from Backerkit by Friday, please message me and I'll send you a direct link to it.

Land of Confusion

Ok, let's clear up all this nonsense that I created!

1. Why can't I add on specific colors of sets?  I only see random sets and your dumb pins!

This was my fault.  I accidentally left off the Quadruple tier of pledges from the add-ons, meaning anyone in that tier couldn't see them.  I have since fixed that problem, so everyone should see everything properly.

2. Hey, you said $x shipping for y sets, but it's charging me $x+n!

Yeah, this one was my fault, too.  I had the weights too high for the 7-piece polyhedral sets.  I have fixed this problem, and it retroactively applied it to everyone's order (no one's card has been charged on BackerKit yet so that we can fix stuff like this).

Shout out to backer Chris R for calling my attention to that!

3. The survey doesn't show me what the colors look like, and the campaign only shows the 5 colors for this one. How bad are you at this!?

Very bad.  This is the first time we've had so many colors involved in a single campaign, so I'm trying to do things right.  And failing.  Fear not!  I will put the pictures at the end of this update.

I'm sorry for all of the confusion, but I think I have it all figured out.

Never be afraid to ask if something doesn't look right.  We want to make sure you get exactly what you expect from us, if not more!

Thanks!

There's the closing bell!
about 5 years ago – Mon, Apr 29, 2019 at 08:52:17 AM

Good morning, everyone!

You are all amazing, because YOU DID IT!  This campaign was a steady train of awesome chugging along, and it's all thanks to you!

For those of you who are new to our kicks, here's how the next few weeks is going to work:

  • In about 2 weeks, the Backerkit survey will go out to all of your email addresses.
  • You'll have 2-3 weeks to fill out that survey, grab some sweet add ons, and confirm your shipping address.
  • After a 2 week grace period, we'll lock everyone's order and charge the cards.  Here's where manufacturing kicks into full swing.
  • Manufacturing takes about 2 months, during which we'll do a final confirmation on everyone's shipping address.
  • Finally, my house gets filled with dice, and I pay all of my friends a Japanese Buffet to pack up your orders!

This is the final campaign for our Upstart line of dice, but they aren't going anywhere!  Thanks to the success of this kick, we're going to fill our store with stock, and hopefully open it right after this campaign ships, in late Summer.  So, when you get your sweet dice, you'll be able to tell your friends where they can nab some!

Also, this is not our final dice Kickstarter.  We're working on a new mold and a brand new set of colors for our next campaign.  During the Backerkit survey, we're going to ask your opinion on some parts of that campaign, and we're going to offer sneak-peaks at the new lineup whenever we have to update this campaign.  We're super excited about it.

As always, your generous support truly blows us away.  From all of us at Legendary Pants: THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH.

UV Dice Production Update (Pricing Info)
about 5 years ago – Sat, Apr 20, 2019 at 07:22:42 AM

Good morning, everyone!

I wanted to post a quick update about the CSI dice.  As we've advertised, our factory has invented a process to allow them to paint invisible, UV reactive ink on the numbers of our dice.  However, as with any new invention, things turn out slightly different than expected at the back-end.  In this case, the UV dice are a bit more expensive to produce per-set (by about 1 US Dollar) than expected.

What does this mean for you?

If you stick to just your pledged dice, this little price hike won't affect you at all.  If you pledged for 5 sets of dice, and you pick all CSI, you'll have no additional charge aside from the shipping.  We want to make sure that people who pledged for dice get exactly what we told them, and nothing less.

However, if you choose to add-on any CSI dice after the campaign (in addition to your pledge), we will be adding a $1 surcharge to those sets, which will also be true when the dice go to retail.

The savvy consumers amongst you might point out, "but wait, can't I just claim all CSI for my pledges, then add on the other colors without the surcharge?" Absolutely!  So make sure you plan your color choices carefully.

Sorry about this unexpected news.  Otherwise, things are looking great!  Four days to go!

Beat Dragon
about 5 years ago – Thu, Apr 18, 2019 at 12:25:21 AM

Good afternoon!

Okay, it's time to show you what we've been crunching on: Beat Dragon dice from Retroverse!

For those of you who have been following the LP-L&L Lovefest, you know that we have worked together to create the Neon Dragon dice for our first Kickstarter and the Tesla Dragon dice for theirs.  The Retroverse has six dragons, so we're ready to release the next color scheme in the series: Beat Dragon.

These will be a brand new adventure for us at LP because we are going to do a two-color swirl in the base acrylic.  The above image is a digital mockup, but it's a simple enough design that it's not going to be too radically different.

As of right now, these are exclusive to this campaign and will not be for sale afterwards.  So, for those of you trying to complete your Retroverse collection (or your Upstart one), you'll want to snag these here and now.

Here, by the way, is the inspiration for these dice:

I was going to slide these things behind a 20k stretch goal, but what's the point?  We'll get to that no problem.  So they're already unlocked and ready to go!

Enjoy!
